Risk Prevention

Philosophy

Promoting safety for patients and physicians

EPIC believes keeping patients safer keeps our insured providers safer.  Our exclusive risk management program of on-site reviews, medical-record audits and continued medical education assists our insured emergency department groups in creating a safer environment for their patients.  And because EPIC is physician-owned, our special relationship with physicians does not stop at risk management.  EPIC-insured emergency medicine groups have a powerful voice in managing their malpractice liability.

Process

EPIC uses a sophisticated and proprietary approach to reduce risk in the emergency department :

  • Our highly specialized risk consultants work with groups to identify and resolve problem areas
  • Comprehensive, on-site risk assessments use proven methods of measuring  improvement and provide benchmarks for comparison with other emergency departments
  • Clinical audits improve the quality of emergency department documentation
  • A focus on chest pain, abdominal pain, and infants with fever addresses high-risk clinical issues
  • Email alerts on topical risk management issues exclusively cover critical developments in emergency medicine
  • Resources and tools, such as a manual for mid-level providers, keep your staff up to date with safe practices
  • Regional and annual meetings of group leaders provide opportunities for exchanging ideas and developing new solutions
