EPIC is committed to providing its members with risk management and patient safety services that anticipate and mitigate losses before they occur. Patient Safety and Risk Solutions LLC is the service provider for EPIC and offers patient safety and risk management consultation to EPIC insureds.

We begin by performing a risk assessment of your practice. The objective is to review your practice from triage to discharge in order to identify risk factors and performance improvement opportunities. A customized action plan is created to support the process of mitigating risk factors, enhancing quality improvement, and, ultimately, improving patient safety. Multiple strategies may be recommended, depending on the needs of the group and the factors identified in the risk assessment.

Additionally, we are linking all of our groups with the EPIC Intranet, a tool used to disseminate and store patient safety information, to obtain web-based emergency medicine education, to obtain current risk management updates and news in emergency medicine, and to provide a forum for discussions.

Patient safety is the cornerstone of the EPIC model. Our collaborative risk management approach is designed to identify areas of risk and to mitigate behaviors and practices that may lead to error in emergency medicine.

Our clinical collaboration enhances patient safety in EPIC’s groups. Together, we create, implement, and share information about best practices. This commitment to patient safety reduces the likelihood of malpractice claims and creates greater stability in malpractice insurance rates.

The Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation (EMPSF) is dedicated to improving patient safety in emergency medicine. As a research and educational foundation, its vision is to be a definitive source on patient safety in the support of emergency medicine by offering educational programs, conducting and funding research, developing resources, promoting patient advocacy, and providing grants. Patient Safety and Risk Solutions LLC provides risk management assessments, consultation, and support for EPIC members. The staff works collaboratively with EPIC insureds to identify and address areas of risk, and to create high reliability systems.
